Today we've got guests coming. They're friends of my husband's (and now mine) and they are lovely. But they are the tidy couple; their house is immaculate and every time they visit, I feel under pressure to have an equally immaculate space. But I never manage it. Ever.
And I really wanted them to see the house at its best but, again, it won't be. Of course, THEY won't mind but I will.
Anyway, today we're on a very tight schedule to get everything done before they arrive but I did manage to take a sneaky peak at the Sunday papers. We tend to get more than one and while I was flicking through you Magazine (Mail on Sunday), I wondered where the weight loss story was for the New Year. The issue is about new starts. Anyway, to cut a long story short there was a big feature on my inspirational 'friend' and fellow blogger, Dietgirl aka Shauna Reid because her book is on sale. Now! Hooray!
I was so thrilled to see her lovely photo (Shauna, you are looking foxy and fab!) and, as ever, there was a paragraph or two that brought a tear to my eye. Shauna writes like no one else and if you want something inspirational for a Sunday, go and buy the newspaper.
At the moment, I'm grappling with the weight gain and the weight management issues. As I wrote yesterday, doing LighterLife gave me so much more than weight loss. And in one class, I uttered the immortal words, "it's so NOT about the weight".
Well, here's Shauna's take on it:
"I always thought that I needed that number on the scales to prove that I'd earned this happiness. But my journey was never about what I weighed. The true reward is embracing my own skin. It's time to make a new list: 'Things to do now that I'm happy'."
That just about sums it up; when you get to wherever 'there' is on the scales, you have to find out what the weight was stopping you from doing. And feeling. And that's when life can get really interesting. Because nothing can hold you back again.
Happy reading, everyone. And Shauna, if you're reading, thank you for continuing to inspire. xxxx
