Do you remember when you first started your most successful diet? Chances are you were probably feeling a mixture of fear and excitement. And hope. Hoping upon hope that this was THE regime that was going to fix the problem.
Coupled with the hope, fear and excitement was probably enthusiasm and determination. For serious weight loss, determination has to be a critical factor. It really does.
Being bed-bound means one thing - plenty of time for reading and surfing (the net). I was looking for something on the blog and found this statement in my profile:
I've started 2009 determined to learn the lessons from my hideous year and have chosen to go back into abstinence (not eating conventional food) until I reach a weight that I feel is sustainable with the appropriate effort (exercise, healthy diet and avoiding my trigger foods).
I can't even remember writing that, never mind feeling it. My enthusiasm has definitely waivered. Well, it's left the building to be honest. If I felt last year was bad, this year seems even harder for completely different reasons. This theme of this year has seemed to be, overwhelmingly so at times, what's the point? What's the point of even trying to sort out my relationship with food? It's just too damned hard and a waste of time. The (lost) weight's always going to come back. What's the point of working hard? Because someone or something will always knock you back. Etc, etc, etc. There is more (of the pity party stuff) but I won't bore you with it.
Anyway, I have added a new blog to the list of VLCD favourites because
The Incredible Shrinking Woman is still going strong on the enthusiasm front and I thought it was worth sharing. She has just won a place for next year's London Marathon and she commented on her own two-year transformation from couch potato to runner. It struck me as pretty inspirational because it hasn't been plain sailing.
So, since it's a Monday, I want to wish everyone a great week ahead; my goal is to get out of bed and shake off the sniffles. With Boots Cold & Flu 24 Hour Capsules and Powders, I'm hoping this will be sooner rather than later.
Apologies for the cheesy 'motivational' poster but it had Labradors (still pining for mine!) and a nice quote (by Charles Kingsley) about enthusiasm... "We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements in life, when all we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about".
Poor you. Hope you feel better soon.
love
