We went to the allotment today. We had two jobs - sort out the support for the blackberries (so that they can grow in a less haphazard way) - and harvest the leeks before the snow arrives tomorrow.
The photo above shows the blackberry bush before we installed proper posts and below shows our handiwork!
The leeks to be harvested have been ready for ages but I just haven't picked them (or visited the allotment with labour in mind)!
Now you see them, now you don't! Harvested leeks...
I came home and decided to make leek and potato soup with our own onions (still using our crop from the autumn!) and I had hoped to use our own potatoes. Sadly, they had gone soft so I was forced to substitute with some hastily bought ones.
The soup was gorgeous (I DID taste it) and it occurs to me this would be a really good thing to have for a lunch. Sadly, I did a bit too much tasting but as it is so rare for me to cook, it was a good reminder NOT to consume vast quantities whilst preparing food. And I want to - somehow - to get to enjoying cooking for myself; if I am to maintain my weight in the longer term, I need to nail that skill!
Today has been really tough on the food front - I think it's the fact that I have a packing deadline tomorrow - and I'm doing everything to avoid it. I've eaten even when I have not been physically hungry (no, no, no - that's a habit that HAS to go). And I feel incredibly fat, I really do. Of course, I am NOT (compared with before) but there is definite lardiness. Anyway, I've got to focus on the positive and note jobs well done!
So, a success and definitely a taste of the future.
